TRC Christmas Ride Report
27 December 2012

Xmas this year was on the 4th Sunday of the month so our normal December ride was moved to the Tuesday after Xmas, a public holiday, to make sure as many members as possible got to catch up for Xmas and have a feed and a drink.

Dwayne “Chopper” Hall offered to use his place at Para Hills West, main incentive there was so he did not have to travel south again for Xmas LOL! Thank you to Dwayne for his house, Phil Woodham and Peter Koszewski for helping out on the day and for all their work.

The ride started at the usual spot at the Arkaba Hotel in fantastic weather. While this is now our usual spot it is only a relatively new starting point and it seems to be working out well. Leaving the Arkaba we went up the hill towards Upper Sturt, back to Crafers onto Ashton and then back into suburbia for a while via Montacute Road then back up the Gorge Road to the Cudlee Café. We were greeted there by a sea of lycra from the early morning pushbike riders but it was soon a sea of leather and Kevlar jeans. While I had planned another route to Choppers place, as we were having a leisurely ride today, I thought we would just go across to the Adelaide-Mannum Road via Chain Of Ponds and head down to Para Hills West that way.

We arrived at Choppers place to see Phil heading off to get some more gas for the BBQ. Some of the sausages were cooked but the gas had run out so the cooking was put on hold for a while. People made themselves comfortable in the backyard and had a cleansing ale, cider or wine, or a cup of tea in Daryl’s case, while waiting for the BBQ to resume. Xmas day activities and presents were compared under the pergola while others set themselves up on the lawn in the warm sun.

With the Xmas BBQ held after Xmas on a public holiday this year it was a guess at how many we would get come along. The day was another success and while the numbers were down slightly from last year all that went had a great time. David Hadfield videoed some of the ride on his new GoPro recorder and has uploaded an edited version of the ride on Youtube and on our Facebook page if you want to check this out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG0FV5_0nb4&feature=youtu.be. Some members have compared it to Sons Of Anarchy footage but that might be drawing a long bow?

Cheers, Shane
